Notes

June 1952 -- September 1952

The music on I Won't be Home No More (June 1952—September 1952) is the last that Hank Williams recorded, and his inner demons and personal traumas are evident throughout the compilation. There are a couple of lighthearted songs on I Won't Be Home No More, namely "Settin' the Woods on Fire" and "Kaw-Liga," and they stand out among the unflinching despair and sorrow that comprises the remainder of the collection. In addition to the two previously mentioned songs, the studio recordings feature "You Win Again," "I Won't Be Home No More," "I Could Never Be Ashamed of You," "Your Cheatin' Heart," and "Take These Chains From My Heart." While the studio tracks are all chilling in their emotional immediacy, the remaining live cuts, Luke the Drifter sides, and non-session recordings are even more haunting, with "Mother Is Gone," "A House of Gold," "Ready to Go Home," and "Why Don't You Make Up Your Mind" ranking as some of the highlights. I Won't Be Home No More is supremely affecting, containing some of the finest music Hank Williams ever recorded.
