LP transfer from the 1967 Canadian album on Syndicate TR-40.
Syndicate Products was formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1964. There must be earlier compilation albums that they released, but I can't find reference to any before this one. They kept releasing them, and by 1971 they had made enough money at it to change their name to K-Tel, and would soon branch out into mass-marketing of mediocre household products in addition to their ongoing series of albums.
This one has a few odd items on it. The first single by The Four Seasons under that name is here, "Bermuda" on the Gone label (it was never either happening or a hit, but it's pretty rare now); the version of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" has had a section removed. To the best of my knowledge, this edit has never been released elsewhere; and "But It's Alright" is faded down with over a minute of the song left. The single edit of "Light My Fire" is here, which I don't think has ever been reissued by The Doors on any of their many compilations.
On the original covers, several of the artists' names were misspelled or misrepresented. They have been corrected for this CD's artwork. Without hearing his voice, you might wonder who the heck Jimmy Rogers is, until you found that it was Jimmie Rodgers. Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers are identified as Frank Lyman. King Pins is not actually one guy, it's King Curtis & The Kingpins, one record before they changed their name from just 'The Kingpins.' Tommy James is listed, but his group apparently didn't rate a mention. On the back cover, the tracks were listed in random order; that has been fixed for the CD as well.
I have done nothing to change the sound - this is what the album sounds like, with the clicks and pops and surface noise removed. The fidelity is varied, and a bit lacking in bass because they had to fit about 28 minutes per side. All the tracks are mono. Some of the tracks end a bit abruptly, before they have faded all the way out.
