Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison is a tribute record to Mose Allison coordinated by Van Morrison, who brought in longtime sideman Georgie Fame, Ben Sidran, and Allison himself to record a selection of Allison's best songs. That doesn't necessarily mean his most famous, even though many of his best-known songs are here. Instead, the musicians are interested in capturing the laid-back, idiosyncratic spirit of Allison's music by combining famous numbers with lesser-known tunes and performing them in a warm, relaxed manner. By and large, the approach works, and it is a better, jazzier record than Morrison's previous album, How Long Has This Been Going On.
