A "best-of" or "greatest-hits" compilation of Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs certainly is a stretch, since they only had a single hit, the number one chart-topper "Stay," known for the great falsetto lead vocals of Shane Gaston. Of the remaining 11 tracks on this short CD, only "I Remember" and "Come Along" made the Top 100. There are nice versions of jazz tunes "But Not for Me" and "The Nearness of You" here, and the collection also includes "Always," the parallel song to "Stay." You can find far more comprehensive overviews -- including interpretations of some Motown hits -- of this one-hit doo wop sensation band that flamed out as quickly as it rose.
