The thin line between provocative and obscene, suggestive and disgusting, gets examined and stretched throughout the 50 tracks presented on the 1989 two-disc set Them Dirty Blues. Many of these songs could be deemed sexist using a '90s measuring stick; on the other hand, many are also quite funny, language notwithstanding. They are reflective of a time when audiences were willing to accept songs with either overt carnal themes or with an implicit, yet rather pronounced sexuality.
