Lynyrd Skynyrd, styled (pronounced 'leh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd), is the debut album from Lynyrd Skynyrd, released in 1973. Featured songs include "I Ain't the One," "Gimme Three Steps," "Simple Man," "Tuesday's Gone" and "Free Bird," the rock anthem that first brought the band national attention.

Reception

In 2003, the album was ranked number 401 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, having sold an estimated 2 million units internationally. [2]

Q magazine (May 2002, p. 132) - 3 out of 5 stars - "Skynyrd sound full of fire and whisky on their debut set....but...these good ol' boys weren't above shedding a tear."
Album cover

Though Lynyrd Skynyrd had only six members at the release of Pronounced, there are seven men visible in the band's photo on the cover. This is because the band's bassist, Leon Wilkeson, left the band before the album's completion - though he wrote many of the bass parts. Strawberry Alarm Clock guitarist Ed King was asked to fill in for Wilkeson, and remained with the band so that they could replicate the triple-guitar lead during live performances.

From left, the men in the photo are: Leon Wilkeson, Billy Powell, Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington (seated), Bob Burns, Allen Collins, and Ed King.

The album cover photograph was shot on Main Street in Jonesboro, Georgia. The band is only a few feet away (behind photographer) from where Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed loaded the Coors beer onto the tractor trailer rig in 1977's "Smokey and the Bandit."
