Notes

The Yardbirds - Over Under Sideways Down (1966) mono lp (Epic LN 24210)

Over Under Sideways Down is the American version of The Yardbirds (aka Roger the Engineer), with a cool cover photo but also stripped of "The Nazz Are Blue" and "Rack My Mind," which means that two of the harder rocking blues tracks are absent, along with some superb Jeff Beck guitar playing and a good Keith Relf performance. Add an extra star for the mono version of this album, which differs markedly from its stereo counterpart, and from the mono and stereo British editions -- the mono Over Under Sideways Down (LN 24210) featured versions of "Hot House of Omagararshid" and "Lost Woman" with lead guitar parts that are different (or, in the case of "Hot House," missing) from the stereo versions, and longer versions of "He's Always There," "Turn Into Earth," and "I Can't Make Your Way." Those longer, superior mono cuts are a delight to listen to.
