Audience recording of the current Eric Burdon Band's performance at Luxor, Köln, Germany 27.03 - 1985.
Another tape from my friend Günther's archives, digitally transfered by yours truly with a Grundig RR640CD tape deck, an Abrahamsen V1 stereo amplifier, a Toneport UX1 soundcard and Cubase SX3 + Trader's Little Helper. I have no idea about the lineage before this.
This was recorded just a few weeks after the official recording that culminated in the release That's Live (taped in Karlsruhe on the 8th. of March). Eric is hoarse as a crow on these recordings due to excessive touring, and had been forced to fire much of his touring band from 1984 due to economical problems. But what was left sure knew how to kick some ass, and the open soundscape leaves plenty of room to Eric's belting vocals.
The audio quality isn't the best, but it's listenable.
Long, jammy takes on some old classics + some very early versions of stuff that didn't surface until I Used To Be An Animal in 1988. Also, we find here a rarity in form of the track Front Street, which does not excist on any official release.
Judging by the setlist and what was released on That's Live, the first 2 tracks are missing (most likely never recorded): Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and When I Was Young. Also, an exciting version of House of the Rising Sun, mixed with a little St. James Infirmary is included.
Mitch Harwood - drums
Robbie Burns - bass
Tom Blades - guitar/keyboards
Eric Burdon - vocals
01 - Working Life
02 - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
03 - Poor Man
04 - Front Street
05 - When We Were A Gang
06 - River Deep - Mountain High
07 - I'm Crying
08 - Lawdy Miss Clawdy
09 - House of the Rising Sun
10 - Bring It On Home To Me-See See Rider *
* = bonus track from Loreley MC festival 23.08 - 1986
Enjoy!
