Prof. sez:

Here is something I've been wanting to do for a long time: a rip of the first FM album in mono. Yes people this is a dedicated mix, meaning that it was specifically designed for mono playback. There are quite a few notable musical differences compared to the stereo mix and It's also much more bass heavy and punchy sounding. It's has a nice roomy sound that you can't really hear on the stereo version. I'm not sure which mix I like best but it's very nice to have this, especially since it has never been out on officially on CD (in mono, that is). Tracks 6 + 7 appeared in fake stereo on the stereo album and have never been available in true stereo until the 90's remixes.

This album needs little introduction. It was the brilliant Peter Green's first solo outing. At this point, the band's feet were still firmly rooted in the blues. Green's contributions are all impressive, from the gloomy "I loved another woman" to the laidback ' Merry go round". Green's sidekick Spencer gets to do no less than half of the songs, which is a bit of a pity as he's clearly not in the same league as Green. That being said, his interpretation of Robert Johnson's 'Hellhound on my trail' is enjoyable and his rocking version of Elmore James' 'Shake your moneymaker' became a no.1 hit in Sweden (!). The album came out during the glorydays of the British Blues boom and managed to stay on the English charts for more than a year.
