ROCKPILE
BOTTOM LINE, NYC
LATE 1978
WNYU-FM

May 8th, 1978 or
10-24-78

WNYU-FM was the radio station of New York University and they broadcast ed a show every Monday night from 9:30 till 11:00 called "Live From The Bottom Line." The Bottom Line Club was a small venue, holding a little over 400 people, yet some of music's biggest acts played there throughout the years. For a time it was the place to be in the NYC music scene. Strangely enough, New York University owned the land that the club was located on and rented it to the owners Allan Pepper and Stanley Sedowsky. Pepper and Sedowsky taped all of the acts that appeared at their club and I'm only guessing here, but it would seem that part of the NYU deal allowed the radio station access to some of those tapes. Someone here may know the whole story, but in any event every Monday I would tune in and tape the shows. Very rarely did they broadcast complete shows and usually they did two or three artists a night. One annoying thing about the series was that they never gave information about when the show was taped. Maybe that was part of the deal they had with the artists who allowed the shows to be broadcast in the first place.

Which brings us to Rockpile. I first listed this show back in 2005, and as usual, included the DJ's opening comments. Lo and behold a bootleg album appeared not much later that included (you guessed it) the DJ's opening comments. Coincidence? I think not. So, here is your chance to listen to the original show without all the layers of stuff that bootleggers have to go through to press a record or CD. Turn it up!!

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE NEVINSRIP BASEMENT TAPES !!
