Todd Rundgren – A Wizard A True Star (1973) [FLAC] {Japan SHM 2009}

A year after releasing "Something/Anything?", Todd Rundgren's double LP, magnum opus of pop perfection, he followed it up with this.. And wow, what a change.
A Wizard, A True Star needs to be listened to in it's entirety, preferably through headphones and late at night because in 70's-speak it's "head music" and sonically amazing!! Similar listening experiences would probably be Radiohead's Ok Computer, Beck's Odelay and Dark Side Of The Moon.
Todd really pushed the envelope creatively and technically with this one and the musicianship is first class as always. AWATS is the second of his trilogy of masterpieces; it's a drastic departure from the power-pop, hook-laden Something/Anything and seems to have more in common with the third one, Todd.
Although technical wizardry abounds here, it never overpowers the melodies or songs and his sense of humor is all over the place! I don't consider this Prog Rock really, I think of it more as a psychedelic album and a must buy for sure. Why he wasn't a HUGE star commercially is still mystifying to me.
