Let's face it--there aren't a lot of 'name' artists who have songs that aren't on CD. Plenty of alternate mixes, mono mixes, 12" mixes, sure.
But actual songs that aren't on cd? Not a lot, once you count Buckingham Nicks and Neil's 2 missing lp's.
That's why Todd Rundgren's Runt is unique--there are 3 songs (2 1/2 to be technical) here that Todd won't let on cd. It really appears they will never see
the light of day. And, hell, by this point, I bet the tapes are gone.
With only 5000 copies made, it's certainly likely that 2/3 of them are gone or too scarred to play.
Finding a mint copy now is probably impossible.
Last year, a friend said he wanted to borrow some of my rare vinyl and go to a friend's house who had (in his words) a $1000 turntable.
He recorded everything straight from the turntable to dat, then digitally dubbed them to cdr.
I'll be seeding some of the results here.
No, I don't have the tech data. I'm not here to compete with pbthal. He's the best there is. But he's not interested in this lp (I've asked), so this might be
the best sounding version out there.
I painstakingly removed clicks, but didn't try to remove the vinyl noise. For a 41 year old recording, this is probably as good as it gets. I like it a lot,
as does my friend.
