Notes

When the original soundtrack was released in 1976, it featured only a handful of tracks from the actual film. Not all of what you heard on that soundtrack was actually in the film itself. Perhaps the best example would be "Celebration Day", which was left out of the movie.

In 2003, the Led Zeppelin DVD was released which featured a segment of Madison Square Garden 1973, which was what the original movie and soundtrack's video and audio was culled from. Only four tracks were featured, with two never having been released previously.

In 2007, a Special Edition of The Song Remains The Same movie was released along with a brand-spanking new version of the soundtrack which featured all of the tracks not featured in the movie. Kinda.

What we got was the film's soundtrack with bonus songs. Fans of the movie know that the full version of Black Dog was left out, along with edited versions of Moby Dick, No Quarter, Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love (oddly enough the full version of The Rain Song is used but it's edited version remains on the film's audio).

The DVD featured a new engineered soundtrack with four songs that were cut out of the film (although the closing number Thank You from the third night remains unreleased).

Utilizing everything from the new soundtrack release, audio from the Led Zeppelin DVD and the original film's soundtrack, this is the longest and most complete version of a soundtrack we have yet to be given.

Now, this is by no means the complete version of the performances. Moby Dick itself ran on close to 30 minutes when performed, while only about 13 minutes have been used on the soundtrack. Also, the original closing number from the third night of the run of 3 shows, Thank You, has yet to make an official appearance.

The main audio dominating this release is the New soundtrack release with other pieces weaved in throughout.
