This is my custom-made special edition of Fleetwood Mac's classic album Then Play On, first released in September of 1969.

I set out to make a customized running order while also including everything needed to recreate any previous configuration of the album.
I personally don't like the original UK running order, so I am not faithful to it. Which version is the best is a matter of taste, likely influenced by your first memories of the album. If you want, you can recreate your favorite version using one of the supplied playlist files, or you can just enjoy it the way I've arranged it. (For details on the different versions, see the bottom of this text.)

Apparently someone did another "special edition" a few years back, making pretty much the same corrections as I have done, but I was unaware of this and I don't know how the two compare. All I know is that I've done my best and paid attention to every detail :)

The source for the bulk of this is the regular Warner Bros. CD released in 1988, which to this day is the only official CD release. While this material would really benefit from a good remastering, the sound of the CD is not as bad as people think. In fact, it is quite all right. Yes, it is hissy and there are some audible tape faults, but these are also present on the original UK vinyl pressing. Available "needle-drops" of this album sound no better than the CD – in fact they sound worse (IMO). So I think the CD is a good source.

[I was in doubt whether I should include 'Oh Well' in the main sequence, as the single wasn't released until after the original UK & US albums. It seems to have been recorded during or very close to the album sessions, though, and it was added to the US running order soon after it became a hit, so I decided to include it. (This also gave me an excuse to include both the continuous version and the two-part single version.)]

16. Untitled Instrumental —a beautiful guitars-only instrumental composition (a.k.a. 'The Madge Sessions #2')
17. Madge Jam —a rocking instrumental jam that was used to create the album's 'Madge' tracks (a.k.a. 'The Madge Sessions #1')

19. Blues In B-Flat Minor —instrumental version of 'Before The Beginning'
20. Oh Well, Part I —as presented on the original single, with fadeout
21. Oh Well, Part II —as presented on the original single, with clean start
22. The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown) —1970 single, recorded and released months after the album
23. World In Harmony —B-side of 'Green Manalishi' — original single version, never released on CD! (From a Warner promo sampler called 'Middle Of The Road' which Demonoid user "deafted" shared – thanks, deafted!) — I EQed this and adjusted the dynamics, as the sound was not optimal straight off the LP.


Extra bonus:

Something Inside Of Me —released on the US album 'English Rose' and recorded at the same October 1968 sessions as 'One Sunny Day' and 'Without You', but not included on any UK album at the time.

Man Of The World (single recorded in early 1969 and released in April, months before the album)
—One of the most beautiful and perfectly executed songs of all time. Included here not just because of its quality, but also because I wasn't happy with its sound on regular releases. It's usually either too trebly or too muffled. Here I've subtly EQed it to just the right tonal balance, to my ears at least.

Plus the US version of 'Underway' (with fadeout), and the CD versions of 'Fighting For Madge' and 'Like Crying' (details, details!) ;)
