Hank Williams' life was beginning to unravel during the time he recorded the material on Let's Turn Back the Years (July 1951 -- June 1952): Vol. VII, yet that didn't mean his music suffered. In fact, much of Let's Turn Back the Years ranks among his best work. Among the hits on the ten studio tracks included on the disc are "Crazy Heart," "Half As Much," "Baby, We're Really in Love," "Honky Tonk Blues," "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)," and "I'll Never Get out of This World Alive." The studio tracks also include the fine "I'm Sorry for You, My Friend," "Window Shopping," and the title track. While the overdubbed and group non-session recordings are good gospel, the true gems of the non-session material arrive in the undubbed recordings, which include such simple and affecting performances as "Thank God," "Someday You'll Call My Name," "How Can You Refuse Him Now?," "When You're Tired of Breaking Other Hearts," and "A Teardrop on a Rose."
