Disc 1 starts with Roy Brown and then features vocal groups from the 1950's. It's mostly upbeat, blues/jump rhythms with lowdown sax and guitar breaks, so don't look for many doo-wop ballads. Disc 2 is darker and more soulful, starting in the late 1950's and then settling into the early 1960's with some excursions later in the decade.
This is a collection of personal favorites rather than a survey of historically significant recordings. A few of the artists are a bit obscure, but it's great stuff from beginning to end.
Note: It may seem strange that Otis Rush is split between the two discs, but leave it that way. Violent Love is a great end to disc 1, and All Your Love starts disc 2 in overdrive.
