The Move - 1970-05-17 - Duesseldorf, Germany - Eisstadion "Joint Meeting" Festival

01 - She's A Woman (7:04)
02 - Looking On (8:59)
03 - Brontosaurus (4:36)

Very listenable quality audience tape. Detailed lineage, processing notes and samples below...

Kneesfudd's posting of Status Quo's set from the previous day of this festival (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=493138) finally inspired me to upload this little project I've been fiddling with over the last several months.

Remastered 2014 for DIME by Cheese as follows:

Listening to the original files, a distinct AM radio quality is in evidence. While that may be appropriate for the Move of 1966 through "Blackberry Way", by the time Rick Price and Jeff Lynne joined Roy and Bev, they were an unmistakably heavy live band. Pushing the low end substantially, and rebalancing the highs and midrange a bit provides a more balanced, crunchy, and appropriate sonic result, in my humble opinion.

Now, my most blatant piece of fucking with the 'authentic' recording. "She's a Woman" originally faded in part way into the first verse. Since the song is such a repetitive series of riffs - indeed the second verse is same as the first (a little trick Sir Paul may have picked up from Henry the VIII) - I decided to try to construct a somewhat proper sounding beginning to the first verse from materials found later in the song. Reasonably successful, I think - you can make out the transition, but it sounds pretty much like a complete song, anyway. Even perhaps something one could play for non-hardcore tapers without boring explanations and apologies.

There were a few volume anomalies here and there that I tried to minimize with the envelope tool, as well. With the boost to the high treble, I believe I applied some very light noise reduction, as well. Purists have checked out long before now, I trust. The original tape was not noise free, and neither were festival PA systems in 1970, but this recording's "noise level" is honestly quite unnoticeable in the context of the band's sonic assault.

"Saschigor's Correct BAND ORDER PLAYED list" is also included with this torrent, along with some kind of program cover or poster I found on the web...

In addition to the Status Quo set from this festival mentioned above, a short (partial) set from Rare Bird on May 16 is still seeded here - two rather extended tracks, including a lengthy quote from "King Kong" within "Beautiful Scarlet":

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

CoolSonics 057 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This one goes out the beatrocker in Sexau, Bill "Cod" Tobin & a couple of Dimers who wondered if there was any Move in my closet. The Move pack a punch here. Fantasically heavy with lots of over the top guitar work complex arrangements on Brontosaurus. "Looking On" is my fave Move album, so the time is right for me. Apparently one of only four Move gigs that year. I know there are some boots around, but I think this may well upgrade some of the circulating copies. More recordings on the way now that I am able to make up for years of slow netspeed.

Kudos to: Zongo for life support & Lochner for microphones & much more. A bow to Fast Freddie for running Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks.
