It's about time for another slice of rare Doors in MONO. This is part of a short "Prof. Stoned cleans house" series, meaning these little projects have been on my HD for
a while but were abandoned or forgotten about at some point. Until now...!
This 45 was released before the album "Waiting for the sun" and the tracks differ considerately from the albums version. The lead track has the bass guitar much more
prominent in the mix, a different gunshoot in the middlepiece and no "war noises" at the end. It's certainly not the only anti-war anthem from this era but it is definitely
one of the most powerful ones. *
The B-side differs even more, as it has entirely different instrumentation in places. Should be easy to notice if you are somewhat familiar familiar with the stereo version.
It has a nice punchy sound with lots of bass guitar in the mix. Check it out!
This record came from a collection of unplayed promo copies, which I was lucky to find on eBay. It is in stunning near mint condition and has only been played two times
ever (by me, after cleaning, to make sure whatever dirt was still in the grooves would be picked up).
Enjoy!
* When considering Morrison's background as the estranged son of a rear admiral of the US navy, the lyrics may very well have been fueled by the volatile relationship
the singer had with his father. For those interested, here a link to an interview with Morrison's late father and sister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G7qnl2uc5I
