I seem to recall that there were three Vile Vinyl LPs put out in the 1980s by J.D., the guy who ran the old Midnight Records store in New York. This disc collects 29 of the 32 tracks from the first two volumes, and it's definitely a homemade job. The insert comes from a cheap inkjet printer, the disc is a CD-R, which is why I'm uploading it as "anything else," and the Five Hungry Men's "Bustin' Rocks" is mislabeled as "We Belong Together." Finally, the sound quality is closer to Boulders than to bosshoss. However, it does have a bunch of tunes that are hard to find these days, like the original recording of "How Was The Air Up There?" by the Changin' Times, a snotty punk classic later covered by the La De Da's and the Bangles. I played tracks 1 through 20 and thought they were all really good. The quality of the music seems to dip a bit in the second half, but then it picks up again with the last couple of tracks. Overall, highly recommended.
Note: thee Wylde Main-iacs' "Not The One For Me" is supposedly a fake '60s garage single cooked up by Erik Lindgren (of Arf! Arf! Records, the Space Negros, Birdsong of the Mesozoic...) in collaboration with Jeff Connelly (DMZ/Lyres) and members of Mission of Burma. This group was rumored to have pressed up other fake 45's under the names of the Huntsmen, Katz Kradle and Thee Wytches, and some of those ended up on compilations (Highs in the mid 60s, Chosen Few, Arf! Arf! label comps etc.). I've heard them and must say that they are great tunes, and someone should do a comp of fake 60s garage records someday. :) Maybe you can tell there's an audible difference there - perhaps the sound is a bit too clean?
