I searched on Dime and didn't find this alive or dead.

This may have been on Dime tracker back in late 2005.

With any luck this will make a good run here.

In 1970 Tom Petty and Tom Leadon formed 'Mudcrutch' with drummer Randall Marsh and guitarist Mike Campbell.

The group became very popular on the local Gainesville music scene, becoming the house band at Dub's,

a local club, and playing frequently at University of Florida. A bit later, Benmont Tench was added on keyboards.

Tom Leadon left the group in 1973, and was replaced by Danny Roberts.

It's difficult to determine which guitar player is actually on this live recording.

In 1974, Tom Petty and the band packed up the van and headed West to find fame and fortune.

Although they did sign a record deal with Shelter Records later that year.

Their first single 'Depot Street' failed to get much attention, and future attempts at an album fell through.

Eventually the band broke up in 1975.

This is a Great Stereo Audience Recording. (Not SBD as some might believe) I wish more 1973 aud tapes sounded this good.

In my opinion Tom's voice sounds really good here. in fact i don't even recognize it as what I'm used to hearng him after 1978.

I've always thought of Tom's voice as having a unique kind of stoner lazy drawl. That had become his signature vocal sound.

though i think there is another member singing lead vocals on a few songs.

I'm sure this has made the rounds in the past, some of you Dimers will already have this.

But for those that don't, i think it's well worth the ratio to hear this old gem, and appreaciate the sound quality and performance.

Recording Notes:

Tape stop bewteen tracks 01 and 02.

Tape stop between tracks 02 and 03.

Tape stop between tracks 08 and 09. Causing Track 08 to cut off.

Tape stop between tracks 10 and 11.

I believe all copies are like this.
