THE BEATLES
ABBEY ROAD SHOW 1983
Remastered Edition

Pitch, phase and level corrected from the CD on ARS 83-2
My first exposure to this disc was from a tape trade about 20 years ago. Before I knew anything about CD mastering, I knew that this disc was done badly. You can hear how out of phase it is, and making a tape-to-tape copy with the azimuth readjusted on the playback deck didn't help much at all. In 1998, I got a CD copy in a mail tree, and it was the first thing I tried to improve. But the technology then, and my limited knowledge of how to use it, did little to make it any better. At some point in the last few years, the adhesive label on the disc dried out and ate through the data layer, rendering the disc unplayable.
The other day, a kind collector provided me with new FLAC files from an EAC rip of an original silver CD. I was able to go to work on them with the knowledge gained over twelve years of practice, and with technology that no one could imagine in 1998. Phase correction worked wonders on it - now the stereo image is focused and stable. Pitch and levels were corrected (ignoring any intentional varispeeding they did), and now the disc sounds better than I thought it could.
For anyone unfamiliar with this program, it features the musical content of an A/V presentation held at Abbey Road Studios in 1983 (five years before Ultra Rare Trax). Beatles outtakes which we would eventually come to have in our own collections were played in public for the first time. The narration has been omitted (for that, you need the 2LP set).
