Notes

"THE ABBEY ROAD COMPANION" is a collection of demos/outtakes and rough mixes recorded for the Beatles' 1969 ABBEY ROAD LP.

1. Because (Lennon/McCartney)

Take 16
Vocal Track
1 Aug 1969

2. Come And Get It (McCartney)

Demo
24 Jul 1969

3. I Want You (She's So Heavy) (Lennon/McCartney)

Fake ?
Feb 1969
The Beatles follow in the footsteps of Cream as a heavy-rock trio while George Harrison is in hospital. A session NOT documented in Mark Lewisohn's Beatle-books and one rare occasion where Paul sings lead vocals on one of John's songs. Trident studios, February 1969.

It is still unsure if this is a fake or not.
The date is of course speculative (noted usually as 21 feb 1969).

4. Oh, I Need You (Lennon ?)

Fake ?
Feb 1969
This song is said to be a Lennon composition but it is not proved (some even say it's a fake or a Mccartney song).
This has nothing to do with the George Harrison song of the same name.
Said to be the "counterpart" to I WANT YOU, a sentimental ballad.
The date is of course speculative (noted usually as 21 feb 1969).

5. Something (Harrison)

Demo
25 Feb 1969
The original George Harrison demo. Recorded on his 26th birthday, 25 February 1969

6. Something (Harrison)

Take 36
2 May 1969
A rough mix of the Beatles' studio-version complete with extended piano-led jam-session ending. Take 36, 2 May 1969

7. Maxwell's Silver Hammer (Lennon/McCartney)
1969
Liner notes say: complete version with full beginning.
But it seems to be a fake (the intro was taken from the middle of the song. Why did they do this? There exist a perfectly genuine outtake)

8. Oh! Darling (Lennon/McCartney)
1969

9. Octopus's Garden (Starkey)
1969

10. You Never Give Me Your Money (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

11. Sun King (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

12. Mean Mr. Mustard (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

13. Her Majesty (Lennon/McCartney)
1969
This is where Her Majesty was supposed to fit in the Abbey Road medley.
But this version by Invasion unlimited seems to be a fake...

14. Polythene Pam (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969
RS2?

15. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (Lennon/McCartney)
28 Jul 1969
RS2?

16. Golden Slumbers (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

17. Carry That Weight (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

18. The End (Lennon/McCartney)
30 Jul 1969

19. Her Majesty (Lennon/McCartney)
1969

20. You Never Give Me Your Money (Lennon/McCartney)

Take 30
6 May 1969
A very early mix with different lead vocal/no lead guitar and a bit of jamming at the end

21. Golden Slumbers (Lennon/McCartney)
1969

22. Carry That Weight (Lennon/McCartney)
1969

23. Because (Lennon/McCartney)
Take 16
Abbey Road Show
5 Aug 1969
SS.AR.08.16.ARS
First half a capella, rest sounds like commercial version
Alternate mix unique to this presentation.

This version was prepared by engineer John Barrett in the early eighties and was part of the "Abbey Road Show" in 1983.

Alternate mix with instrumental backing mixed out for the first half of the song
