Ian Matthews and (some) Richard Thompson solo acoustic sets
May 7, 2014
Center of The Performing Arts
Grass Valley, CA
A Hitwitstuff2 recording!
core sound bi-noral mics mounted in my hat>zoom recorder>tracking, Level adjustments made with Audacity. I lowered the levels of the applause manually to even out the entire thing so the listener doesn’t have to keep adjusting the volume.
flac files created with Switch and MD5 file created with xAct.
Well, I really botched this one and am so angry with myself, but there is a “but”
The show is general seating (mostly except for VIP club members). The place has 308 seats. Its acoustically beautiful. Really, not a bad seat in the house. Doors open at 7:00, show starts at 8:00. I get there at 6:30-ish and the doors are already open and the place is already filled up. Still, I manage to snag two front row off center seats. Great show.
Here’s the bad news, earlier in the day I when testing all my gear I didn’t look at the card. I checked that a card was in there, but didn’t look at it. Turns out it was the 1 gig card that comes free with the zoom. Great. In the middle of this incredibly brilliant show I see “CARD FULL.”
BUT!
The show was broadcast on KVMR Nevada City, CA and streamed here: http://fatmusicradio.com/
BUT!
neither have archives.
BUT!
You know it was recorded by someone somewhere. I’ve appealed privately to some on DIME who post RT shows and I’ve tried various people on RT’s Facebook page who where commenting on the show as they heard it on the feed. So far, I believe I have scored an audience recording. On the RT Facebook page I recognized a name from my old snail mail tape trading days. The guy lives near San Francisco and traveled to Grass Valley to see the show. I know very very well that he’s a taper. Score! that it’ll be up to the taper is he wants to share it, but where are the recordings of the world wide stream?
So here’s what I got and sadly what could have been:
I’m not familiar with Ian Matthews, but after his set and the seeing the encore with Richard Thompson I bought a couple of his CD’s in the lobby and am very happy I at least recorded his set. I don’t know if his set was broadcast. I’ll need some help with a few track titles
