Back in Nov 2008 I 'dropped my UK stereo LP copy of "The Best Of The Dave Clark Five". It turned out OK, but I was never really happy with it. I upped it here though because of the distinct lack of lossless stereo DC5 floating around; what you normally find tends to be in mp3 format, with reversed channels and mastered loud! It's become my most popular 'drop, if the number of downloads are anything to go by.
Anyway, a few months ago someone (forgot his name) upped here the 7 CD "Complete History" boot. Again though, the source was vinyl and some of the tracks weren't faithful to the originals in numerous ways. However, the sound was great; much clearer than my original vinyl.
So here's what I did...
From the "Complete History" set I grabbed the same tracks that were originally released on "The Best Of" LP, because I quite like that tracklisting (I guess I'm used to it ;)). I also grabbed the four tracks that were number one hits *after* "The Best Of" LP was released in 1968. Then, ensuring no loss of sound quality, I:
- speed corrected two of the tracks (that were a noticable semitone too slow)
The mixes are largely the same as the original 1968 stereo mixes. The only obvious difference is "Everybody Knows"; the stereo mix included here has centered vocals, whereas the original stereo mix has the vocals in the left channel.
