This highly collectible set was the first of only four volumes of Canadian classics and obscurities released by many licensing agreements with RCA, in a project spearheaded by legendary executive Paul White. They have been out of print since about 1992, and are very hard to find now.
The technology to remaster records was not too advanced in 1990, and many flaws that were on the records they used were not removed - the tools did not exist at the time. For this edition of "Made In Canada," much work has been performed on existing tracks, and some have been replaced entirely by better-quality recordings. All tracks sourced from vinyl on the CD have been further declicked so that none remain. The phase of the stereo recordings has been corrected. The following tracks have been replaced:
The Beau-Marks - Clap Your Hands
- from a better pressing; electrical hum present in the recording was removed
Shirley Matthews - Big Town Boy
Jackie Shane - Any Other Way
- from better pressings than on the CD
Chad Allan & The Expressions - Shakin' All Over
The Guess Who - Flying On The Ground Is Wrong
- Randy Bachman supplied atrocious fake stereo mixes with the left brighter and the right duller, and the addition of digital delay, echoes and cavernous reverb. Both tracks replaced by the original mono mixes from "Shakin' All Over" on the Sundazed label.
The rear artwork has been revised to correct the spelling of two group names: ConsOls to ConsUls and Mashmakan to MashmakHan, and the title of one song - the Motherlode record is called "When I Die," not "AND When I Die" (that's a record by Blood, Sweat & Tears).
The only tracks from tape source here are 3, 9, and 13-18. The only stereo tracks are 3 and 14-18. All others are from mono 45 RPM singles.
