DAVY JONES MUST DIE!
Zilch Records, 1999
Various --> CDR --> WAV (using Exact Audio Copy)
This is a compilation of tracks from the "Monkeeshines" bootleg LP, VHS tapes of the show and "33 & 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee", and a few other places. To the best of my memory, this was compiled by trader and eBay seller who called himself Wizard Glick. I bought and traded from this person several times around 2001. The packaging on this disc is a perfect example of the bizarre sense of humor that he often used to describe the material on his trade list. I received my copy from a trade, and the artwork is slightly different (with none on the disc itself) from the version he sold (as a Zilch Records release) on eBay. --DASjr, 2013

Review by Rob G, August 2005
"An overall nice mix of Monkee rarities. The sound quality does vary but for the most part it is very good. The worst sounding tracks are right at the very beginning of this disc.
One other thing, the folks at Zilch Records really do have a funny sense of humor. If you think this cd title is odd, you should check out some of the other titles listed on the back cover.
1. You Can't Tie A Mustang Down - Also appears on the Flashback label Daydream Believer And Other Hits in much better sound quality but without the count in.
2. Tear The Top Right Off My Head - taken right from the TV series. For some reason there seems to be little pops in this track (and my copy is an original silver disc!).
3. Merry Go Round - With the varying tape speed, your much better off getting Missing Links Vol 2. The "false start" is strictly an engineering mistake - it was not made by the musicians or the singer.
Good news - the sound quality gets much better from here on.
4. Her Name Is Love - Taken right from the TV series but it's still nice to have this on disc. Too bad Davy never made a fully produced studio version.
5. Daddy's Song - This version should have been released as a bonus track on Rhino's Head soundtrack cd.
6 thru 19 - 33 & 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee - Rhino really should have released this as an official release and include all of the music (Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Little Richard).
8. Evolution - This song has been edited. The spoken bits have been taken out.
9. I'm A Believer - There is a slight distortion throughout this track but I believe it is from the original source. I have 33 & 1/3 on VHS and DVD and the distortion is there also.
18. Listen To The Band - An incredible version when just the Monkees are playing. Once The Trinity and The Buddy Miles Express joins in, it turns into a free form jazz blues odyssey.
20. Girl - not really sure why this is here - maybe for comparison for the next track.
21. Girl - Listed as being from 1996 but it sounds more like it could have been from the 70's.
22 thru 26 - Nice to have a group of Monkee Christmas songs together in one place.
22. Christmas Is My Time Of Year
24. White Christmas
26. Christmas Is My Time Of Year (Reprise) - all three of these songs seem to be from a vinyl source. They appear on the boot Save The World in better quality but without the reprise.
29.Dialogue
30.Dialogue
33.Dialogue - I just don't get the point of putting audio sound clips from the TV series (with no music) on disc. Maybe it's just me.
31. Daydream Believer
32. I'm A Believer - Nice to have this on disc."
