Notes

Artist: John Lennon
Album: Winston O’Boogie
Year: 1988?
Stereo/Mono

This is a bootleg album of varying quality and may not be for everyone! But don’t let that dissuade you.
Lennon superfans like myself will love it!

If you don’t know… Wisnton O’Boogie was John’s nom de plume when he produced Harry Nilsson.

Winston O’Boogie was released somewhere around 1988, I think. The quality is mostly excellent on side one,
which is why I am posting it. I especially like a pre-Elton John version of “Whatever Gets You Thru
The Night.” Elton obviously make it a hit, but this version has a nice laid back charm to it.

Side one, tracks 1-5, is comprised of studio quality (for a bootleg) outtakes from the “Walls and Bridges”
Album. Track 6, the last song on side one, “Just Because,” is of lesser quality and is in mono. It features
an obviously drunk Lennon with a “Rock And Roll” outtake. It must be heard to be believed. It is fun to
hear something from those now infamous sessions. The track is finally interrupted by either an engineer
or Phil Spector, I don’t know which.

Side two, (which is in mono)is all one big jam session reminiscent of the “Get Back” sessions from January
of 1969. The Jams are in the studio from the sessions for “Double Fantasy.” It seems they are waiting for
a camera crew to finish setting up and they are just messing around. The quality is not great but there are
some entertaining parts. For instance he sings, made up lyrics to several of the songs like “Dream lover,
where are you? Up my ass and in the stew!” I think it is especially funny that one of the guitar players
keeps trying to play “She’s A Woman” (not even a John song) and John finally gets fed up with it and tells
him to “Stop playing that F***ing thing!

The track listing on the cover is a little off, so I labeled the tracks as I heard them.

Remember, it is a bootleg. There is tape hiss, what sounds like guitar amp hum, and other anomalies.

Full art included. The labels contain Lennon drawings.
