Well this is a turn up for the books!
When I started on this, the vocal was in the far right channel, but there was hope as it's
clearly a (narrow) stereo recording, and good quality one at that. It also ran too fast.
I've corrected the speed, and I've done my best to widen the stereo 'picture'(using mda image)
and bring Iggy's vocal out of the right channel. When doing such things care is required, as
too many changes can end up reducing quality rather than tweaking it.
This is the best I can manage using Audacity...it's possible people who are good with Cool Edit
Pro or other more complex tools could do more, but it's very listenable. The treble was also on
the sharp side and the bass lacking, so I've addressed that a bit.
This is very nice to have ... a full early 77 Iggy concert (with Bowie on keyboards, Ricky
Gardiner on guitar, Tony Sales on bass and Hunt Sales on drums, both later of Tin Machine)
in very good stereo quality. Both the Chicago FM gigs present a slightly shorter set...
this includes all the encores - Tonight, Some Weird Sin and China Girl.
Until very recently, I thought Seattle was the only early 77 stereo recording that approached
the quality of the Chicago FM gigs, so nice to find another one! If there's one remaining fault,
a couple of tracks in the middle seem to have a minor cut at the start...a shame but it's not
particularly noticeable.
I'm still hoping someone shares the Seattle 9th April 77 gig in full, as according to Per
Nilson's book at the very least it has been 'out there'.
In the meantime, enjoy this, I certainly have!
There's great keyboard and backing vocals...they're all on top form!
FANCY HEARING MORE IGGY!?
I'm keen to get hold of these...
9 April 77 Seattle Full length recording
I've checked Per Nilson's book "The Wild One" and it lists in the "Audio Tapes" section in the back -
9 Apr Paramount Theatre, Seattle (70/VG)
so someone must have it! :)
18 November 77 Santa Monica Full length Recording
Iggy Pop - Palasport, Parma, Italy, 5.28.1979
[seeded on Dime Wed Feb 16, 2005.
In particular this comment interested me :
"This is from the same tour as the Theatre Le Palace, Paris, 5.16.79 show. The
quality is a little better on this one. The Paris show sounded like an audience
recording, whereas this one comes across as a soundboard deal. A poor
soundboard, but a soundboard, nonetheless."]
14.05.80 Montpellier, Grand Odeon (I have a lot from this period now, but this is apparently
a fine quality recording so could be interesting)
23.05.80 Lyon, Palais d' Hiver (FM broadcast *stereo* version if it exists, or with more than
7 tracks if that exists?)
3.11.81 Club Foot Austin,Texas (includes Shakin' All Over!)
13.02.83 Keystone Palo Alto, CA SBD remaster
[seeded in 2005 and 2006, before I joined Dime, apparently better than the 12-2-83 recording
that was re-seeded recently]
17.06.83 Osaka, Koseinenkin Hall (soundboard)
FM broadcasts from the '96 tour...I have two but I think there 3-4 in total (I'll update on
what I don't have).
How about you?
If you are after the above or any other Iggy gigs, if you find / make time to seed something
that's unusual or simply some Iggy that's not been seeded for a while, if just 1 in 20-40
downloaders did the same there's a good chance more Iggy that you've been after could turn up!
If, like me, you've spent a lot of time combing the net for long lost Iggy recordings, think
of how something you are after could just turn up here - after someone who's got something
you would like picks up something seeded here and likes that too!
Iggy karma!? :)
If Dime torrenting isn't your thing, there are other options...uploading through other forms,
CDR by mail etc, let's get more circulating here!
