Notes

Mar 6, 1940 - Dec 28, 1940

This two-CD set from French RCA duplicates material already available on other CDs. Duke Ellington was very productive during 1940 and this reissue has most of his best recordings for Victor (leaving out almost all of the vocals) including "Jack the Bear," two versions of "Ko-Ko," "Concerto for Cootie," "Cotton Tail," "All Too Soon" and "In a Mellotone." The two-fer concludes with two takes apiece of Ellington's duets with bassist Jimmy Blanton. This is essential music even if this particular release is not necessarily a must.
