Notes
The History Of Flo & Eddie and The Turtles (Rhino, 3LP set 1983)
This one's a lot of fun. Unlikely to ever see a CD release (the licensing issues alone would make
that a paperwork nightmare), this 3LP 54track set provides a roughly chronological path through the varied career of Messrs Kaylan and Volman, AKA Flo & Eddie. Tracks from their school choir and early incarnation as surf instrumentalists The Crossfires kick things off before a brief trip into Turtles territory offers a few rarities and a couple of radio commercials (for Battle Of The Bands and Turtle Soup), a Pepsi jingle and a couple of live TV tracks. From then on it's all Flo & Eddie, alternating album tracks with interview clips from their radio show and occasional TV appearances - with a guest list that's as hip today (probably hipper) than it was then: Albert Brooks, Alice Cooper, Keith Moon, David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn, Ringo Starr, Iggy Pop, Harry Nilsson, Rick Price, Bev Bevan, Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, Lou Reed and America. Add to the mix some bizarre medleys, obscure tracks and even a fake promo for a Marilyn Chambers double-bill and you'll get the picture. An anarchic trawl with plenty of laughs to be had along the way.
PLUS five more bonus tracks - 3 from the Ed Sullivan show, plus the rare b-side version of Somewhere
Friday Night (flip of Lady-O, this is the Ray Davies produced version that was discarded from Turtle
Soup in favour of the original demo), and the Flo & Eddie b-side Come To My Rescue Webelos (flip of
Let Me Make Love To You).
