Here's some interesting history on the long-defunct Schaefer Music Festival:

The Schaefer Music Festival (which began it's life as the Rheingold Central Park Music Festival in 1966) was a music festival which had been held in the summers between 1968 and 1976 at the Trump Wollman Skating Rink in New York City's Central Park. The series had been sponsored by F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company (brewer of Schaefer Beer) until 1976 at which point it became The Dr. Pepper Central Park Music Festival when Dr. Pepper assumed sponsorship. Due to residential noise complaints the series of concerts was moved to Pier 84 on the West Side in 1981 and became the Dr. Pepper Music Festival through 1982 and in 1983 Miller took over sponsorship of this series and it became Miller Time Concert on The Pier through 1988.

Renowned club owner and musician Hilly Kristal, who founded CBGB in 1973, co-founded the festival with producer and concert promoter Ron Delsener. The capacity of the Wollman Rink was usually limited to about 6,000 to 7,000 people, but it is reported that Bob Marley's performance in 1975 has attracted about 15,000 people. The festival was very popular, since tickets were cheap (from $1 in 1967 to $3 in 1976) and many superstars of the popular music scene have performed at the festival.
