Notes

Colosseum - Mega-rare Restored LP "Colossal LIVE" Prob Hamburg Germany 1971-06-xx Speed-corrected and rejoined

This is a good recording of an intense performance, that unfortunately suffers from some occasional distortion. I did this project by request of a Dime member who wanted it. I was unaware the album was so rare as I didn't pay that much for it. Upon listening to it again, I noticed the speed was running a bit slow. It's been corrected, bringing the running time down to 43:30 and improving the sound quality somewhat.

The actual date and location of this album is still in question, but the performance does not match anything currently commercially available.

I can't figure the set list out either, please help!

Enjoy!

A DoinkerTape

The record was recorded on the so called BIG GIG open
air festival in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek on June 20-21,
1970 (parcours for horse jumping). Colosseum played on
the afternoon of the 21st.
I may be wrong (and I have not heard the thing since
decades), but as far as I remember the band did NOT
have Chris Farlowe at that time, yet.
Other performers included Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep
(both bands just had their first longplayers out),
Family, Humble Pie, Gentle Giant, Mungo Jerry, Pete
Brown's Piblokto, Steamhammer and (as far as I remember)
Black Widow.
Trivia: Renaissance (the 'Yardbirds' version / were
announced but) didn't show up, so the promoter presented
a black singer instead. He introduced him somehow "I do
not have to say his name, you all know him & here he is"
.... no, it wasn't Richie Havens, and nobody had the
slightest idea who he was.
It is said that one of the organizers made some money
with this festival and later financed out of that a
string of record shops in Northern Germany. (GOVI-
