Notes:
Freshly off the Anarchy Tour, and even more freshly off supporting Marc Bolan, the Damned’s return was eagerly awaited. Having released the first bona fide punk record, New Rose, and having the publicity machine that was the early Stiff Records behind them, their reputation was still growing.
Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies showered the crowd outside with badges and postcards (I still have my badge) and the kids from the housing estate across the road showered us with bottles and bricks. No, really - it was grim in those days, outside the Electric Circus.
We had hoped to be able to lay paws on the limited edition 7” single Stretcher Case/Sick of Being Sick but this was not to be. We did get a blinding set, though and I got a chair in the back of the head, which had been thrown from the balcony. The person responsible got a good kicking outside from the bouncers. Serves him bloody right.
Recommended Track: Stretcher Case (MP3: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EMBF66PA) – I suffered for this recording, now it’s your turn.
