::: Excellent totally clear AUD. Check samples for instantaneous credibility enlightenment averment, joyful bits & bites or digital delay download desperation stopgap measures.
::: Warts: Bass a bit low (turn it up!). Surely missed some dullspots, but most fully repaired. Bit of non-removeable clapping in "Slow Down". Taper cut off deck 'tween some songs. Several tiny mike glitches at start of "Sketches" greatly minimised but not completely repairable.
::: Fillmore West August 3,4,5 (Thurs-Sat) Procol Harum, Leon Russell & Blodwyn Pig. Lights by SF Lightworks. Two shows or sets per band each night.
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE : This is an upgrade over roryglzep's version at http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=395441 & should leave him raving & drooling.
::: This is also upgrades the old versions seeded by 38F & Arsnova.
::: This looks slightly shorter than roryglzep's, but it's not missing anything! It's speed corrected, had blank tape spots removed & taper shutoffs smoothed out.
::: Note : I have 2 different 1st gen. copies - one metal tape transfered in the 80s, but the master had clearly degraded by that time. This 70s normal bias transfer won out by a long shot.
Recording Information ::: unknown mono recorder, unknown microphone -> master mono tape (reel?) -> DW's 1st generation Sony C-90 Plus 2 normal bias 92 minute cassette (transfer circa 1977), no noise reduction.
Playback 2013-03-19 ::: 1st generation Sony C-90 Plus 2 normal bias 92 minute cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, no noise reduction, azimuth & speed adjusted (pitched!) for individual recording, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity (normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch / dropout / bump / pop / click / dullspot repairs & clap reduction, volume adjustments, further speed fixes if necessary, NO equalisation) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2013-03-30. Suffereing fear of bloat, With great reluctance, I decided to repair everything & use the left channel only. While this limits further fixes, the audio quality is steadier & almost every tape aging artifact is removed from the listening experience. I did a complete run through after I finished to be sure I was happy with the results & I think it is exquisite.
Line-up ::: Mick Abrahams - electric & acoustic guitars, vocals // Jack Lancaster - flute, tenor sax, soprano sax, violin // Andy Pyle - electric bass, upright bass // Ron Berg - drums, percussion.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
CoolSonics 133 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! I believe that was RS's older bro & then my copy harkened from legendary California trader DW, who kindly gave me a number of his 1st generation cassettes in the 80's when he transfered them to reels. ::: Corrections welcome ::: In my opinion, one of the finest live performances in my collection. This has always been one of the recordings that sums up why I collect ROIO's. It has the intensity & complexity of a 1969 King Crimson show - the seriously heavy along with the beautiful, soft & subtle, free jazz affect, and rocked out, blues saturated mayhem of the first order. The band is really tight & the sound captures some of the best of Tull's early sounds without some of their hang-ups.
For those who have never heard this recording, get ready to be blown away. For those who know it well, I suspect many of you might literally get your socks knocked off. This is a a generation upgrade that has been remastered without EQ & almost every listening impairment that other versions suffer from (including the master), has been removed. I fixed all kinds of electrical issues from microphone motion, 100s of claps & many more 100s of dull spots, all one at a time. One seemingly unnecessary part of the late show are the multiple requests by Mick that people clap their hands, when overall they seem more into listening, not to mention the fact the a couple of the songs are nearly impossible to clap along with... I think this can safely be filed alongside your copies of "Ahead Rings Out" & "Getting To This" & will STAND UP just fine whenever the mood strikes you for some righteous live Pig. Enjoy!
