10. Paralyzed (songwriting session)

These demos are supposedly the last sessions Rachel did (excluding Hairspray and the Barbie things), in preparation for her fifth lp. She was dropped by Columbia before the project got off the ground, and there was no record company interest when she shopped the demos around. Some are very country oriented (eg, see "Wildwood Saloon"), others are more rock-inflected.

While the sound here is nearly flawless, songs just aren't that good, content wise. The opener is a killer ballad that could've been a hit on the country charts. Of the others, only Mumbo Jumbo stands out for me, it's a quirky, simple pop tune.

The bonus track dates from 1982--it's a long tape of how Rachel wrote Paralyzed on her last lp Blame it On Love. Great quality, but the repitition will drive you batty after awhile--just vocals and keyboard repeating stuff over and over..........
