Eric Burdon & The Animals
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 5, 2013

Again this year recorded from KBOO FM 90.7 here in Portland. A volunteer radio station that has broadcast the festival each and every year. It has become a huge festival & we stopped going due to the big crowds. I now record all that I can & enjoy sharing with you all. As with any all volunteer station there are a few blurps along the way, which I have "fixed" as well as I can. Enjoy, twofthrs

FM> H2 Zoom> SD card> HD> FLAC> U.

As a young man growing up in Newcastle, England, Eric Burdon listened to his idols Ray Charles and Bo Diddley and immersed himself in American blues and jazz. Later, as front man and driving force behind British Invasion leaders, The Animals, Burdon helped shape rock and roll’s DNA with his iconic voice and soulful delivery. He has since shared the stage with such legends as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Witherspoon, Otis Redding and Bruce Springsteen.

As front man of The Animals and WAR and as a solo artist, Burdon has released nearly 50 records over the past five decades. Through the changing sounds and genres, what remains constant is his courage as an artist to explore new sounds, leading into new territory with his unique and unrivaled voice.

Burdon released ‘Til Your River Runs Dry earlier this year. His most personal album to date, it includes two tributes to his hero Bo Diddley, revives The Animals' hard bitten rock, touches upon War's multi-cultural funk and indulges his love of the blues. All of this while he reflects on mortality, mixes in some social protest and recognizes that “Old Habits Die Hard.”

At age 71, it seems Eric Burdon isn't “going gently into that good night” any time soon. “I feel great that I've been given a chance in the golden years of my life,” he says. “To me, it's the last battle, and I've been given a chance to get stuck in some good armament, some good power...I can finish off my working years with my head held high.”
