The source for this was not an 1967 Track mono copy, but the vinyl-only reissue on Classic Records in 2000 (think MFSL, Analogue, DCC) in cooperation with Experience Hendrix. A wonderful pressing, mastered 100% analogue with vintage tube equipment, as it should be.

Unlike what many people may think, the stereo mix of this album sounds much more dated than the mono mix. The reason for that lies in that fact that it was recorded on 4-track, which offer limited panning possibilities. But the balance between voice and instruments is also somehow better on this mono mix. And the stereo version has a lot of panning around the stereo spectrum which gets kind of tiring to listen to after a while.
