Notes

A rivetting evening's entertainment at the Hobgoblin from two enthralling guitarists.
Part of a double bill with Michael chapman, William led the way with a mesmerising performance on guitars with additional instrumentation from a variety of unlikely sources such as a cylindrical wind-up chimer, and old cassette player, rattles and scrapers, and of course, a loopback machine.
This was a first time record at The Hobgoblin for me. Arrived early to get set up, a smallish odd shaped room, no seating and a couple of fans whirring noisily in some frenetic parabolic motion as the poles suspending them from the ceiling were rather loose and rotating of their own accord as well. With nowhere to hang the mics and also considering the fans, I went for a soundboard connection (thanks Matt).
As for the audience - as the place filled up people brought chairs in from outside and found some more stacked in the corner. So just about everyone had a seat - and everyone was absolutely riveted by both artists with nary a murmer or mumble evident for the whole show.

thanks again to Martin & Ian at Drifter Promotions - see you Friday!!
Here's a bit I found on line: from http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform:
William Tyler is a Nashville-based guitarist who has played with Lambchop, the Silver Jews, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tim Chad and Sherry, Charlie Louvin, and his own solo project the Paper Hats.
Tyler is also the founder of the Sebastian Speaks record label, which has released records such as Hilarity and Despair: American Answering Tapes Volume 1, a "compendium of discarded and disregarded answering machine tapes" as well as records by Forrest Bride and Ted Lucas.
On November 23rd, William will be releasing Behold the Spirit under his own name on the Tompkins Square label.

Enjoy!!!
