Free's second outing contained all original material and was less blues-based. The loping bass and snakey guitar figures appear to be a blueprint of things to come. Paul Rodgers' dynamic vocal range is pushed steadily to the fore, and cuts such as "Songs of Yesterday" and "Woman" fit well alongside introspective selections like "Mouthful of Grass" or "Mourning, Sad Mourning." A solid set from a band just beginning to hit its stride.
