Review from Jazzand Blueslegends.com

"The LP starts with his very first piece 'Country Blues, Number One', which is acoustic, and goes on to 'Rollin' Stone' (which is where the Stones got the idea of their name from), 'Rollin' and Tumblin'' and 'Honey Bee'. Each of these songs has a place of honour in its own right in the history of blues: Waters' warm voice and aggressive slide guitar, together with his unforgettable compositions, have reached the top of the charts with a success that only Willie Dixon has been able to equal. It's worth noting how 'I Be Bound To Write To You' and 'I Can't Be Satisfied' are basically the same piece: the guitar intro, structure and melody are identical, while only the title and lyrics change; it bears witness to a signature style that belonged to him in a very real sense.

To crown what has just been written, I should mention this extra detail that's not to be glossed over: the CD comes with an extra album, that is a compilation of similar music by different artists. The Original Blues Legends has pieces by Little Walter, James Cotton, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy and others as well. There are thirteen tracks on the album - a truly welcome surprise!

In the same series there is also an album entirely dedicated to Billie Holiday, and all the material released by the "Music Rough Guides" label is a splendid source for anyone wanting to get up close to music from many countries around the world, without going crazy having to search through publications not always well organised. Happy listening!
