Some thoughts:

This group's 2nd 45, released 6 months later, featured Roky Erickson, later of 13th Floor Elevators fame:
The Spades - Zero 10002 - Nov/Dec 1965
You're Gonna Miss Me 3:21
We Sell Soul 3:15

I've been curious about this first Spades recording for years as I think The Spades 2nd 45 is amazing and was released only 6 months after this one. Though this one doesn't feature Roky it is the same band that recorded the superb & original versions of We Sell Soul & You're Gonna Miss Me, before the 13th Floor Elevators ever existed, and is to my mind therefore every bit as relevant to the ROK collection as the post-Roky/Tommy 'TFE' recordings or quasi-reunions! I suppose you can either look at these recordings from either of the following perspectives:

a) boy did they suck without Roky, or:
b) what a difference 6 months made, or:
c) I can see some of the later Spades guitar work on Dance or perhaps even extrapolate future 13th Floor Elevators ballads on Girl.

Either way it's a good measure of what was going on musically in the area at the time, and it reminds me of some of the live 13th Floor Elevators material from the New Orleans Club from March of '66...
