joe fierce: These are reels I stole from WPGU, Champaign, IL in 1991.
I stole these reels from a radio station vault in southern Illinois that I had access to back in college. I did the transfers with a Teac A-2340R reel machine straight to my Phillips CD burner. I have included the broadcast dates printed on the reels as they came from King Biscuit. Due to some damage on the 1/1/78 reel, I had to take the last 2 tracks from the 8/14/77 reel (both broadcasts are of the same show). The sound quality on these is incredible.
About the performance date, it is definitely controversial. This show is listed at db.etree.org as 09/01/1977, and also on Wolfgangs Vault as 09/01/1977. I hate to have to disagree with these 2 sources, but if you look at the jpegs I included of the reels that I transferred these from, the earlier one is clearly broadcast on 08/14/1977. So I guess this just stirs the pot a little bit. Also, my reels are missing a couple of tracks that are listed on the etree and wolfgang's vault lists. The PRE-FM sound quality I am providing here, however, makes up for the missing tracks. Enjoy this gem...
