Kaptain Kopter & the Fabulous Twirly Birds
KPFK Radio , Los Angeles 1972
This is NOT a great recording. I got this copied from a friend in the mid 80s onto a Memorex C60 cassette. At times during the between song banter you can hear bleed through from the other side of the cassette.
Many people have heard of Randy's work with Spirit, but his solo material is lesser known. Randy California was one of the true guitar heroes - if, like me, you ever had the chance to see him doing his own great songs, like Nature's Way and 1984, or reworking All Along The Watchtower or Hey Joe, you'd know he was so much more than the kid in Jimi James' band. Check out any of the first, or last, Spirit albums if you want to hear some great guitarwork. If you still doubt the need to spread Randy's legacy, just ask yourself while listening to Led Zep's Gonzaga boot, "Why did Page & Co. cover Fresh Garbage?" Nuff said
