Long before the spoken-word Renaissance of the early 1990s, poet John Giorno began issuing a series of spoken-word albums through his Giorno Poetry Systems label. This collection gathers up some of the highlights from the first 12 of these albums and includes readings and some music from the likes of Giorno, William Burroughs, Laurie Anderson, Phillip Glass, Patti Smith, Frank Zappa, and Allen Ginsberg.
