Notes

This is a pretty cool combination of two Bobby Vee albums from 1960/1961 that are stronger together than they were separately. With Strings and Things is the softer of the two, though it has its cool rock & roll moments, while Sings Hits of the Rockin' '50's generally focuses better on rock & roll, even if it veers decidedly toward pop. The overall result is to reduce the presence of the true pop dross from the earlier album, while providing a bumper crop of rock & roll ("Do You Want to Dance," "Love's Made a Fool of You," "Diana," "School Day," "Summertime Blues," etc.) and pop/rock ("Little Star," "Come Go with Me," etc.). That, coupled with the excellent sound and informative liner notes (albeit from a U.K. perspective), make this an appealing CD and a must-own item for Vee's fans.
