Five years earlier, Firesign Theatre tried breathing new life into the Nick Danger character with a one-off EP, Nick Danger: The Case of the Missing Shoe, with mixed results. Now down to a trio, the group tried again, but this time stretched out to the length of a full album. There's still clever wordplay, but it seems far more forced than before and perhaps a bit nasty. Also, though Firesign Theatre has always been known for a fairly surreal sense of humor, some of the plot twists here are more nonsensical than surreal, leaving the listener feeling unsatisfied and possibly bewildered. Worse still, some of the characters are underdeveloped here, notably Rocky Rococo, who seems more like a caricature of a caricature on this album. It's not a complete waste of time, though, because it clears up one mystery from the original installment: Just what is an Anselmo Pederazzi case, anyhow?
