Most of the people at this show had a strange ritualistic practice of striking the palms of their hands together to produce an annoying sound. This practice seemed to be so ingrained into their behavior that I felt I should do it also or risk being singled out and ostracized. I resisted the urges as long as I could and then decided to pretend to strike my palms together so it would appear as if I were one of them. I was careful not to actually make any noise when I did this.
