Notes

OK, maybe i'm being a bit hard on this one, but the sound quality is just HORRIBLE, all the way thru. There are some great songs on here, and that's what makes it so frustrating. I especially enjoyed the TATTOO YOU outtakes, like the long version of SLAVE (without sax or vocals), and the HANG FIRE early takes.(Mick singing different lyrics, but the chorus is there. Actually, you cant make Mick out that well.) The other BLACK AND BLUE outtakes, tho, are just in such a poor state. Some i just had to jump over. Even tracks like SLAVE, have splices, dop outs are common on the CD, the sound overall is FILLED WITH HISS. I would say that the tapes that were used to source the CD, were 4th generation AT LEAST. I dont know if this material is available elsewhere with better sound, but if it were, I dont know if i would buy this. It's such a shame, that the Stones have not put out their own ANTHOLOGY, unless that was what they were doing with TATTOO YOU anyway, since it was all outtakes from the early to mid 70s. If you dont mind the poor sound, and really want to hear the long versions of SLAVE or HANG FIRE (I'm a huge TATTOO YOU fan), then get it for that, because the only other Tattoo You outtake album i can think of, START US UP, doesnt have the songs that are on here, or have them in edited down versions. It's a hard call.
