Notes

audience > ??? > cassette > cdr > ???

The Woking / Guildford area of Surrey was The Jam’s home territory and the Civic Hall should have been the setting for their final concert on the farewell tour. Due to ticket demand an extra gig was booked in Brighton a couple of days after and so it was that the best band in the land ended their career performing a rather lacklustre set in a large but “cold” venue by the sea. The atmosphere at the Brighton gig was also marred by a frustrated few in the audience who indulged in bottle throwing.

The Guildford gig, by contrast, was a much more cheerful affair with the band by all accounts enjoying themselves while playing a strong set and the whole crowd savouring the moment. This is a reasonable quality crowd recording for the period.
