Around 1976, Stan Webb (leader of Chicken Shack) starts a new project, Broken Glass. They released a self-titled album, Broken Glass, with help from Miller Anderson, and produced by Tony Ashton. But in 1977, Stan Webb resurrected Chicken Shack, so Broken Glass split. Following his sojourn with Savoy Brown, Stan's next recorded output was with Broken Glass. This featured Robbie Blunt on guitar, and also Miller Anderson. This was recorded in 22 days in November 1975 and released the following month.
This is a good album featuring Miller Anderson (Keef Hartley Band), Stan Webb (Chicken Shack), and Robbie Blunt, who turned up in the early 80s playing for Robert Plant.
With a three guitar attack, these guys had a great heavy sound. I would have thought this band would have gone on to bigger and better things, but due to managerial problems, the band eventually called it a day.
All the songs on this album are great rockers, and should be part of any respectable record collection.
But one song, 'It's Evil' puzzles me. Most people will recognize this song as the same song 'Cactus' did on their album titled Restrictions. Only they called it 'Evil'. Cactus gave credit to one 'C Burnett' for writting this classic, though Broken Glass credits 'Blunt and Webb' as the writers.
In case you're wondering, 'C. Burnett' is none other than the great 'Howlin' Wolf'. I always wondered why so many bands never acknowledged the right person when it came to credits. The same thing happened on the self titled LP by 'Stray Dog'. Were these grave errors flat out song theft by the musicians, or an oversight of the management? Still, it's a great album!
